Continuing New Habits
Summer is almost over, which means
now my new habits will be put to the ultimate test: College. Will I be able to
keep up writing for an hour, thirty minutes of yoga, and a blog post every
week? So far I have my doubts, especially given the fact that this is my second
late post. While this semester only has 15 credits, it does have 2 jobs. By the
time the next blog post occurs, it will be the weekend before school starts.
The question remains how to I keep new habits going? Definitely, I will have to
stay focused, in order to keep on top of homework and still save time for
writing. The only way I will be able to keep in yoga is if I do it first thing
in the morning. This summer has been good practice for that, because if I am
able to wake up in time to get to class at 8, which is approximately thirty
minutes away from my house, I should be able to wake up in time to complete
yoga and then go to my class. I have
been waking up consistently at 6, which should give me enough time to do half
an hour of yoga, get ready and walk to my class at 8.
Generally, I have seen that if I can
keep up the habit of writing for an hour everyday, I will remember to post on
the blog. When I start allowing myself to fall behind in writing an hour per
day, I quickly forget about my blog. So now the question is how do I keep
writing an hour everyday? Limiting the number of times I am distracted will
greatly help me save enough time for writing. I don’t know how many times I’ve
heard it said both that there’s not enough time in the day and that it isn’t
that we don’t have time for something, but that we didn’t make enough time. At
first glance those statements appear to be in direct conflict with one another.
However, the fact of the matter is that both are true. We don’t have enough
time in the day to not stay focused and still be able to accomplish everything
that we want to accomplish. So the question isn’t as much do I have time it’s
do I have something I am willing to give up in order to clear time. I think
limiting how many times I check reddit in a day will make it easier for me to
clear time for writing. Also if playing the game 2048 on my phone doesn’t
distract me, then I will have more time as well. A quick check of the batter
statistics on my phone shows that in the past 24 hours 43% of my phone battery
has gone to 2048, and 15% of my battery has gone to reddit. Today alone I spent
more than 40 minutes playing 2048, which would be fine, if I didn’t also want
to write.
Restarting regular college as well
as my jobs will mean less time, but keeping my new habits going is possible if
I make the time.
